a couple more trips to the engineers for tube, bends and flat and we are getting fed up of welding but the bar is taking shape, just the top mount plates to line up and weld, and an extra mount to the tie down mounting bolt with a big eye for towing, and it will be ready for paint

soon be ready to fit my number plate frame to the landy, bet Daz hasnt got one like this  stirring

It would be nice to get some wider flares though, dont really want those screw on jobs, but the tyres do tend to throw a bit of mud up, it always seems to get on the mirrors too. At least it doesnt show too badly on this colour when it dries.  thud

The bar with the magnetic welding holder thingys on, are you welding that in place pel6 the only reason I ask is how easy is it to get the winch out for servicing/ repair etc. etc. etc.

Only 6 bolts to take the bumper off, so not too worried, winches arent a big thing for thieves here yet, but still dont want it too eay to get off. Its all welded now, bar the extra mounts to go underneath, will be setting it up on the replacement chassis this weekend to finish it off then it can be painted.

These are Cheviot Turbos.15x8. Cheviot are no longer, not sure now if they sold or went bust, was a few years ago, I believe ROH and Wildcat also made them the same.

Cheers Ard. Yes weighs a little, about 25 kg, still lighter than the winch, though a synthetic rope would lighten that up a bit.  The Disco rear springs I am using on the replacement chassis are a little stiffer than the old 110 springs, which I guess will have also sagged alot over 23 years. It is a v8 though so lighter in the front than a diseasel.

Lovely fine day today after all the rain for the last week so I gave the bumper a quick spray of paint and bolted it all up.

Not sure about the radius of the top corners, they are boxy like the landy's corners but I may cut them out and replace them with a larger radius, if I had seen them at the engineers when I got the elbows I may have giot them then, but they are also 5x the price. Anyway  can do that before it gets galved and powder coated if I really want to. At least I can use it for a while and make sure all is good until then.

Also a pic of the bumperettes fitted on the back. A difference I found  when fitting them was that the 88 replacement chassis I have doesnt have any crush sleeves or bracing in the back crossmember, so was only going to bolt them on the front with short bolts and nuts inside the cross, but the 85 had bracing so had to get longer bolts to go right thru.

Thanks Mike.

To be honest things have grown on me, the side windows and the colours I now quite like, I am thinking that replacing the side and rear glass with brown tinted glass would look even better.

today will be a little different, will be doing a repair rather than a modification, yesterday when I returned from the river was greated by steam from under the bonnet, a pinhole in the nasty little hose behind the waterpump thud

so todays mission will be to fit a replacement, not a new one but the best one I have from a spare engine. Hopefully it will last until I get a new radiator core fitted to the disco 3.9 rad and fit the 3.9 and autobox.

And just been told my houses I have been waiting to build have all been cancelled due to the declining market. thud

Well, thought I would do a trial of the 3.9 and auto into the replacement chassis so I can check all my hoses, P/S, auto, engine cooler rad etc, no problem, but why dont the engine mounts line up  als5  check the existing chassis, hmm mounts are about 4" too far back.  smile6 smile6

Darn idiot who sold it to me said it was a V8 chassis, obviously not, must be a diseasel. thud thud

So I guess on Wed I will be off to the dump ( not open Tuesdays) to see it the Disco chasis pieces are still on the scrap metal heap and see if they look like they are the same as the 110 v8 mounts.

Thanks Kev. Not a bad old beast, be much nicer with the auto and PS though. The winch and bar does make the steering a little heavier.

The local glazier was going past the shed today so aked him for a price to replace all the rear glass with brown tinted, he reckons it will suit the colours well. Hope it comes back reasonable enough to do. All the rubbers are cracking so need replacing anyway. The heated screen will have to wait a while longer though at the equiv of 500 GBP  als5

but I have the engine sitting in the replacement chassis most of the pipework in place to check for fit, looks like only the front trans cooler pipes to be modified, and the rad will be getting a new heavy duty narrower core so it can fit in between the guards. and a pic of the gap in the engine mounts, got the ones off the disco chassis and cleaned them up, so will pull the engine again over the weekend and chop the diseasel ones off, and weld the V8 ones on. I thought about leaving the diesel ones on but will be too tight with the exhausts.

ooooh keep the pictures coming, I would like to put an auto in the 110 and I am toying with the idea of a v8 spin on gas.

I dont know if it is a problem with all chassis, I would have thought if it was originally an lt230 it might not be a problem, but with the disco's transfer case mount there was a slight interference from the front of the seatbox mount so that got removed as did the diseasel mounts. A quick fit of the motor and box again to check the mounts are correct and they will be welded up, but that will be a job for after dinner, have to do a trip to town and the river first.
