Managed to get the 110 out of the rain for a while and see about fitting the solenoid box for the winch,  didnt look like there was going to be enough room on the drivers side with the header tank, so had a look on the passenger side. The LPG control circuit had to be moved forward and the petrol solenoid hoses swapped but that will give enough room, and hopefully the power cable will reach to the battery box from there.

So just needed something to mount it on, a piece of 2mm ms plate was turned into this little bracket.

Tomorrow we will squeeze it into the landy and make a stay for the bottom and run and connect the cables.

I guess the next job will be to make a new battery box that will fit my two maintenance free batteries.

On the weekend I removed the spare wheel tray and replaced it with a piece of chequerplate, and made a chequerplate lid for the storage box at the rear since I had no lid for it. Forgot to get the piano hinge for it today so its still just sitting there.

I also sprayed the spats with silicon spray which has given them a nice finish again instead of the grainy speckly look they had.

The winch is now also working with the cables connected to the battery, through a cut off switch on the front of the seat box.

Today we (I) (Dex doesn't do much to help) got some more steel and made some frames for the Disco seats to bolt them into the 110. The RR seats were nice but felt just a little too high, and were getting a little tired so wouldn't last long.

I couldn't quite fold a u channel with my bender but near enough.

I then had problems with the paint, too cold for the colour coats although the primer went on okay, hopefully a warmer day tomorrow so we can finish and fit them.

Had a play with the engine today, have yet to replace the frost plugs, but today pulled the sump off to replace the gasket, so took a pic so Dazz, the Head ORRP Engine Expert, can advise on whether it looks good enough to use or shall need a full overhaul.

an update, just in case anyone is still interested

Engine and trans back in the painted chassis, torque converter to flexplate bolts are a right pain on the rovers, just glad I wasnt trying to do it under a car.

New fuel pump (in tank low pressure) and tank fitting kit ordered from Keith Gotts, should be here next week, will have to find some aluminium tubing for the new fuel lines.

Radiator to be recored next week as the 4.0l  90/110 Rads are not available at present, so will use the disco tanks and modify the top and bottom plates, and a new core to narrow it 100mm to fit the 110.

Next job is sort out the wiring for the trans and shifter interlocks, decide how I want them to work and wire up the relays to suit. Also the start inhibitor relay to wire up.

Also have to look at the exhaust system, disco front pipes, maybe a new 110 tailpipe and intermediate modified to match.

Todays little project is the heater bypass pipe, the disco one was badly corroded and I also need an oulet for the carb manifolds rear outlet, so have bought a piece of 19mm 1.6mm wall tubing, filled with sand and heating it to bend it to shape. Dex is not too happy about the flame from the oxy acetylene set, especially when the blowpipe backfires.  lol

What sort of front cover on the engine is that then ?

I use various 18 mm copper pipe fittings to make ends meet on the heater/cooling system.

its the interim cover from the 94 disco, crank driven oil pump and distributor hole, ideal for a 4.6 conversion if you dont want to use the engine management, thats the next step, but just the 3.9 for now.

The original heater bypass tube, nice and rusty, and my new replacement with a branch off for the manifold outlet

Ard, using copper fittings like this on an engine with aluminium can cause electrolytic corrosion of the aluminium haed, especially if the anti freeze isnt up to scratch !

I was quite surprised at the amount of corrosion of some of the castings in this engine, fortunately it is only a temporary engine until I get the 4.6 that I want.

My new fuel pump arrived from Gotts yesterday and today another box of bits, the fuel tank fitting kit, manifold flange gaskets and some window sealing rubbers, MWC 4757 for the sliding windows in the door tops.

Fitted the felt to my drivers door top so no longer have a rattling window as I drive  mi5

Fitted the fuel tank, with the new pump and sender unit and fitted up the disco front pipes.

New Carbs have been ordered, the radiator will be getting sorted at the end of the week so hopefully will be ready to strip the body off the old chassis in 2-3 weeks.

yep 35GBP down the drain, the seller would have made lots more sales if he had sorted it, I guess they think they can get away with ripping someone off now and then when they have lots of sales, 97% pos feedback doesnt seem that bad  thud but with 12,000 feedbacks thats a lot of unhappy customers, most of his negs are for items never arriving. smile6 smile6 wapispurt is the ebay seller in case anyone didnt see the other thread

No shocks or rear springs yet either as they will come off the old chassis.
Just trying to find some aluminium tubing for the fuel lines next. Might be able to get some in the city on friday with a bit of luck.

Haven't you got some old bumpstops laying about ?
If they come apart just drill two holes in the metal plate and srcew some screws in. That's what I did and never lost one again.

 motz motz motz

I dont have any as I had ordered (and paid for  motz) new ones.  As much as I can I have replaced parts with new as I want it to be the new landrover that I can't buy. Although it will be stripped again hopefully next year for the new bulkhead, 4.6, salisbury front axle, front and rear diff lockers and galv the chassis. By then I should have built an internal and external cage and all the chassis mountings for them and sorted any other changes I want to make. I have actually been thinking of modifying the front radius arm chassis mounts, angling them downwards slightly rather than cranked radius arms, although I only want 2-3 inches of lift I would prefer to be able to use standar radius arms. The rear arms I will probably make some wedges for the mounting bushes.

Still cheaper than buying from the dealers here, even with freight, and the service is good.

Todays shopping trip was mainly for hoses and getting the radiator sorted (other than the corrugated iron for a fence which is what paid for the trip) and some rubber to line the recovery gear box with. The recovery gear box is the first I made, a few more almost the same will be made soon which will be for spares tools and other bits, the boxes fit between the wheelboxes and are the same height, so a mattress will be able to be laid straight over them for sleeping, four of them will fill the space.

Since I have a winch now and a recovery gear box, I thought I might need some recovery gear, so after looking in the auto stores and 4x4 stores at their stupid prices for undersized gear I went to the suppliers of chains, ropes and lifting gear, Cookes, who also had the silly 4x4 gear. So I bought an 8000kg rated pulley block, just rated enough for my 9500lb winch but wont be enough for a future 12500lb one. A couple of 5M snig chains, 2 bow shackles and some lifting straps, not rated as pulling straps like the 50mm wide 4x4 jobs. 2x 3M 4000kg, and one 6M 3000kg.
I guess that should do for now, without lockers I shouldnt be getting in too much trouble. Any other suggestions?
